“Searching the Google Search history database allows the police to identify people only based on what they may have been thinking, for whatever reason, at some point in the past,” Jennifer Granik, surveillance and cybersecurity advisor to the American Civil Liberties Union, told Forbes.

“This unprecedented method threatens the interests of the First Amendment and will inevitably purge innocent people, especially if the keywords are not unique and the time frame is not accurate. To make matters worse, the police are currently doing this secretly, which isolates this practice from public discussion and regulation,” she added.
